Clearing Browser Cache - Google Chrome
Clearing Browser Cache - Google Chrome
Over time, your browser stores data such as browsing history, cookies, and cached images/files. While these are designed to improve speed and convenience, they can sometimes cause issues with websites not loading correctly, showing as blank pages, or preventing you from signing in. Clearing your browser cache can resolve these issues and improve overall browser performance.
Why You Would Do It
Blank pages not loading: A corrupted cache or cookie set can cause websites to load as a blank page. Clearing data often fixes this immediately.
Resolve login problems: Expired or corrupted cookies can prevent you from signing into websites properly.
Fix loading/display issues: Old cached files may conflict with updated website versions.
Enhance privacy: Clearing history and cookies helps protect your browsing activity.
Steps to Clear the Cache
Open Google Chrome.
Click the three dots (…) menu in the top-right corner.
Select Settings.
On the left side, click Privacy and security.
Click Clear browsing data.
-
In the pop-up window:
Click Clear data.
Best Practices
Limit to essential items: Only clear browsing history, cookies, and cached images/files unless otherwise instructed. Avoid clearing passwords or autofill unless troubleshooting specifically requires it.
Use “All time” when troubleshooting persistent issues: This ensures no old data lingers.
Regular maintenance: For best performance, clear cache periodically (e.g., once a month or when encountering issues).
Sign-in awareness: Clearing cookies signs you out of most sites—make sure you know your login credentials before clearing.
